API 1184 Natural Gas Piping Systems Tally Book: Built for Compressor/Meter Station Inspectors

API 1184 is the credential for pipeline facility construction inspection: compressor stations, meter stations, valve sites, and the other facilities on a transmission system. API Recommended Practice 1184 is the practice that frames that job. The welds on those sites are not a straight mainline tally. They sit on spools, headers, and meter runs, and the material grades change for every filling.

A blank notebook makes you invent that layout every shift. The Natural Gas Piping Systems Tally Book is ruled for weld and material tracking, plus isometric pages for the as-built sketch.

On each weld line, write what you will need when someone asks for the weld later:

  • Weld number, matching the iso and the NDT request
  • Welder ID
  • Material type and grade on both sides of the joint
  • NDT method and report number, when the weld is tested
  • Accept, repair, or cut-out, written when you make the call

Keep the weld numbers on the isometric sketch the same as the tally. Reference pages cover common pipeline tables, bolt-up patterns, and weld inspection formulas.

Book specs: 110 pages of fabrication tally (1,375 welds), isometric pages, five pages of pipeline tables and bolt-up patterns, and one page of weld inspection formulas. Made in the USA. This is a field log, not a copy of the API document.

6" × 8" paperback
6" × 9" hardcover

If the weld, the grade, and the sketch do not match, the facility package is not done.
